I prefer the original Doomsday Machine's internal FX, it looked more like some sort of exotic energy effect befitting something that could destroy and consume planets. The remake was just a standard "mini-sun". Kind of impressive how the whole thing was done originally with a windsock dipped in concrete (IIRC).

That's not exactly a bright idea considering the borg first appeared in next gen and after that in voyager and after that in Star Trek enterprise the NX-01 series being explained away as a time paradox left over from the movie First contact on a research ice planet. If anyone's seen Star trek enterprise the episode "dead stop" it's most likely the borg are part of what I think is called the grandfather effect. Yes bear with me I know it gives people headaches to imagine the idea that the borg created themselves themselves but think about it for a couple minutes in the episode where NX-01 encounters tbe borg they lead enterprise on a chase in the scientists ship which only has a warp drive suited for warp 1.5 to warp 3 I 4get exact specs but the borg upgrade the ships engines turning the ship in to a semi cube like structure structure for awhile possibly a day at least Enterprise looses sight of the transforming borg ship and in that time who's to say they didn't visit the automated space prepare station for resources? Remember the borg are cybernetic organisms much like the repair station is with how it uses living beings to increase it's computing power. In the end of the episode dead stop the station tries shutting down the enterprise through it's data links with the station and ship's umbilical connections to savor these connections enterprise detonates 4 drums = to 400 liters of warp plasma damaging the station shutting down and withdrawing it's connections sept for it's mechanical arm, enterprise amputates the arm with torpedos just barely getting away as the station is blown to bits. As the episode ends you see the station coming back to life pulling and putting itself back together. My advice ask the writers of Star trek enterprise who created the automated ship repair station in the episode dead stop and explore the possibility that those same people created the borg or that the borg probably created themselves by visiting the station and leaving some device or programming behind.

It’s funny there was always so much ado about Kirk vs. Picard. That never made sense to me because they each have their own distinct vibe and I have always admired and looked up to both of them.

Any trekker or fanclub applied some of that upscale technique (maybe in cloud) to upgrade full star trek Voyager or TNG series?

Thank you for posting this. I find the TOS graphics superior to the remastered version’s. TOS effects have a “weight” to them, a solid, realistic feeling when rendered on screen. Remastered effects look cartoonish and amateurish. The shuttle takeoff was as UNrealistic as you can get. Isn’t that the purpose of CGI…to make the effects realistic? That mission failed here, in my opinion.

It's been so long since I've seen the pilot that I somehow replaced Kim with Paris in that whole "crunch time" thing; doubtless because Paris says it *so* much better (and more often) than anyone else.
